Date Effective: July 1- Sept 1
Purpose: Post-doctoral research fellowships support individuals interested in pursuing academic or clinical research careers in ophthalmology or vision-related science. Eligibility is limited to those who are within 3 years of the awarding of their doctorate. Clinical research fellows are required to spend at least 50% of their effort on their research, while basic researchers are expected to devote full time to their project.

Emphasis On: FFS gives preference to projects relating to clinically important eye diseases. Recent grants have been awarded for projects in the areas of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, retinopathy of prematurity, glaucoma, amblyopia, strabismus, AIDS-related eye disorders, cataract, uveitis, and corneal transplantation.

**** APPLICATION INFORMATION
Procedure: If, at the time of filing, the applicant does not have a doctorate, a cover letter must be submitted with the application advising that the doctorate will be conferred by the commencement date of the award. Should unanticipated delays occur, FFS reserves the right to postpone the start date or withdraw the award.
**** ELIGIBILITY
Level of Study: postdoctoral
Other Criteria: Non-U.S. Citizens are eligible for FFS post-doctoral fellowships, provided their fellowship activities are conducted within a U.S. or Canadian institution. International fellows must be within three years of the awarding of their doctorate.
