Award Type: Fellowship
Duration: Either 6-9 months or 4 months
Date Effective: At least 11 months after submission of application
Purpose: AIIS awards aim to assist scholars in their study of all aspects of Indian history, culture and contemporary life. Both American citizens as well as non-American US residents are eligible. Special consideration is given to Indian graduate students studying for Ph.D. degrees at American universities. Senior Research Fellowships are awarded to established academic specialists in Indian studies who possess the Ph.D. or equivalent. In accordance with Indian government requirements, each research fellow is formally affiliated with an Indian university during the course of work in India. Award periods range from 6 to 9 months. Senior Short-Term Fellowships are for up to 4 months.
