Purpose: The Council decided in 2002 that an award should be made each year in memory of the late Barry Bloomfield, Past President of the Society, who was largely responsible for organising the Centenary Appeal Fund from whose income the awards are made.

Emphasis On: The Bibliographical Society invites applications from scholars engaged in bibliographical research (on, for example, book history, textual transmission, publishing, printing, bookbinding, book-ownership and book-collecting). The Society hopes to make awards both for immediate research needs, such as for microfilms or travelling expenses, and for longer-term support, for example to assist with prolonged visits to libraries and archives.

Notification Date: February
Procedure: Applications for grants to be awarded by the Council of the Bibliographical Society at its meeting in February should be submitted by 1 December in the previous year and should be supported by letters from two referees familiar with the work of the applicant.
