Purpose: The Freeman Awards for Study in Asia provides information and financial assistance for U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in East and Southeast Asia.

**** FINANCIAL DATA INFORMATION
Average Amount per Award: $3,000-$7,000
Award Includes: tuition, travel expenses, living expenses, housing, health insurance
**** APPLICATION INFORMATION
Deadline: First Wednesday of March (for Summer Awards), First Wednesday of April (for Fall/Academic year Awards), Third Wednesday of October (for Spring/Early Academic Year Awards)

Procedure: Students must submit an application online at www.iie.org/freeman-asia. All applicants must submit a FAFSA at the time of application and obtain a Student Aid Report to verify their financial need.
**** ELIGIBILITY
Level of Study: undergraduate
Nationality/Residency: Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents at the time of application.
Other Criteria: Students must demonstrate financial need in order to participate in the Freeman-ASIA Program. Applicants must have little or no previous experience in the country in which they plan to study. For additional eligibility requirements, please visit th
**** ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The overall aim of the Freeman-ASIA Program is to increase greatly the number of Americans who know Asia first-hand and understand its peoples and cultures. As a condition of the award, upon their return to the U.S., students must agree to promote study in Asia by sharing their experience and enthusiasm with peers on their home campuses and in their communities.
